Can you tell us a little about your background and education?

I was born in Switzerland and I have lived here almost all of my life. In 2009 I went to the US, where I stayed in  Texas for a year as an exchange student and absolutely loved it. I learned a lot, not just about myself and this wonderful country but I also really tried to get good at the language. German is my native language, but I also learned French and English in school. I went to high school (which is not mandatory in Switzerland) and graduated in 2012. I then took a gap year, decided to go live in Paris and improve my French, the rest of the year I worked in the real estate business until I started University in 2013. Now I am in law school in Bern and will hopefully get my bachelor’s degree next year. franca 2

Why did you decide to start a Youtube channel?

Since I was living in Paris by myself, I had quite a lot of free time. That got me thinking what I wanted to do, like what I really enjoy doing.. and it just came to me. I love doing makeup and talking and I love Youtube, so why not just try and start my own channel. I never intended it to become something big, I just needed a creative outlet. Now that I spend most of my time reading and figuring out law related problems, Youtube really has become the part of my life where I can express another side of me. I can do and say what I want on there and it’s so nice to have something that’s just mine.

What are your videos about?

I make videos about whatever I feel like that day. Usually they’re about beauty, fashion, lifestyle and travel. My latest videos are actually travel vlogs that I filmed last summer when my boyfriend and I went on a big road trip around Scandinavia.

How do you differentiate yourself from other beauty and lifestyle channels?

Since I’m not doing Youtube as a job, I don’t feel that pressured to put too much thought into it. I stick my heart and my free time in making videos and I just try to get my personality through to the viewer. Everybody is different, so everybody brings something new to the table and everybody’s welcome, that’s the beauty of Youtube.

Have you been contacted by brands?

I have been approached by multiple brands before. I chose to not work with some of them though, because I feel very strongly about honesty and transparency and I would only agree to a collaboration if I really get to express my honest opinion. I do get sent some PR samples as well, which I really appreciate. franca 4

You have over 5,000 subscribers. To what would you attribute this success?

As I said before, I never really intended for my channel to become big or successful. I guess I was lucky and some of my content hit a nerve with those over 5,000 people. Of course I also put a lot of time and effort into what I do and some of the success can definitely be explained by that.

Are you able to make any money from this?

I do earn some money from Youtube, but it’s very little and definitely not enough to live of off.

What advice would you give to someone who wishes to launch their own Youtube channel?

I’d say just try it, don’t sweat the small stuff, pour your heart into it and enjoy yourself. If it works you have a beautiful new part of your life to be happy about and if it doesn’t just forget about it and move on to something else. I just think it’s very important to remember that Youtube is part of the internet and you should always think about what you want to share and not share on there. franca 3

Do you think that having a web reputation is good for your career, and why?

Since I don’t really know exactly what I want to do with my life yet I can’t really answer that question. I’m sure that Youtube is teaching me a lot and I will definitely be able to benefit from that.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan on continuing my studies and eventually getting a master’s degree in Swiss law. During that time I will try to make enough time for Youtube and expand my channel, who knows where this can lead me to. france 6 You can check out more of Franca's videos on her Youtube Channel Twitter/Instagram
